The Dish

Crispy Cod Nuggets and Fish & Chips (shown below). (£ – Approx. €11 per dish)

The Fish & Chips were certainly less traditional but certainly not less tasty! A fantastic dish in a bustling market hall.

OUR VERDICT – 4.5 Stars

Foodhallen is an amazing street food market, about 15-20 minutes away from the centre of Amsterdam by tram. It’s certainly worth a visit! With about 20 streetfood stalls, there’s plenty of choice for everyone.

We tried Mer du Nord’s Crispy Cod Nuggets and their take on Fish & Chips. The Fish & Chips were certainly less traditional but certainly not less tasty! The small deep-fried fillets were covered in this delicious seasoning called “fish powder”. The fish was very fresh and flaky, as expected. The chips were crispy but were more like potato wedges – still very tasty though. A fantastic dish in a bustling market hall.

We also tried some other dishes from Foodhallen and they were equally amazing:

• “The Crazy Chick” burger from The Butcher was quite possibly the best Chicken burger I’ve ever had. Plus, the sweet potato fries and popcorn chicken were fabulous. The Butcher also has several locations throughout the city, including The A’DAM tower.
• We tried the Dutch classic Bitterballen from De Ballenbar. The deep-fried balls were very nice, although a little odd. Certainly give it a try and we’d recommend you get the tasting collection!
• The pizza from Renato’s was fantastic too!
• And to top it all off, we had some delicious mini pastries from the French Stall Petit Gâteau.

Overall, Foodhallen and Mer du Nord – worth a visit if you get the chance.
